The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said he has no regrets about openly supporting President Bola Tinubu since 2022, insisting that his position did not change before, during or after the 2023 presidential election.
Wike made the remarks at a special event held in the early hours of Saturday to mark his 58th birthday at his Abuja residence. A statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, quoted the minister as saying his political decisions are guided by character and integrity, adding that he never concealed his support for Tinubu.
He recalled that ahead of the 2023 polls, he stood out as the only prominent figure from the main opposition party to publicly endorse Tinubu, a decision he said was based on equity, fairness, justice and his belief in the rotation of power to the South.

The former Rivers State governor said his political strength was evident during the elections, noting that while the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the presidential election in Rivers State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured victories in the National Assembly, governorship, State House of Assembly and local government elections under his leadership.
The birthday gathering attracted political leaders from across party lines, including serving and former National Assembly members from Rivers State, members of the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, local government chairmen, as well as friends and political allies.
Several speakers described Wike as a strong achiever and influential politician, urging him to remain resolute and assuring him of their continued support.
The Rivers State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors and former PDP chairman, Ambassador Desmond Akawor, described Wike as the “naked wire” of Rivers politics, saying his record justified President Tinubu’s decision to work with him.
Speaker Amaewhule, who led 27 lawmakers to the event, thanked Wike for his leadership and pledged the Assembly’s loyalty, saying they would support whoever he supports.
Responding, Wike thanked his supporters for their loyalty and encouragement, saying he remains fulfilled working with his people. He added that criticism only motivates him and does not distract him from his goals. The event ended with prayers for the minister and his family.
