Fifteen people have been arrested after a shooting disrupted Friday prayers at a mosque in eastern Ghana.
The incident occurred at the Ho Central Mosque in Ho city at about 9:00 am, leaving at least seven worshippers injured. The victims are receiving treatment at hospitals in the regional capital, according to local reports.
Security forces intervened quickly and took the suspects into custody. Local media outlet Myjoyonline reported that the detainees are being held by the regional police command in Ho.
Eyewitnesses said violence broke out as a newly installed chief imam arrived at the mosque to lead the day’s prayers.
According to Myjoyonline, clashes erupted between supporters of Alhaji Alfa Anas and a group of armed men allegedly providing security for the newly installed imam.

The mosque has been at the centre of a long-running leadership dispute, with two rival factions contesting the position of regional chief imam for more than a decade.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at the hospital, Edward Agyekum, Head of the Accident and Emergency Unit, said 10 victims were received for treatment.
Agyekum clarified that only one victim needed closer medical attention and that the injuries were primarily pellet gunshot wounds to the victim’s legs and thighs.
“One had the pellets pass through the thigh and ended at the right lower side of the abdomen, so that one needs extra attention,” he stated.
