Amnesty International Nigeria has denounced the assault and public humiliation of Pedro Obaseki, former managing director of Daar Communications, branding the act “barbaric and unlawful” and urging the police to open an immediate investigation.
Attackers reportedly assaulted Obaseki, a cousin of former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, on Sunday while he played football at Uwa Primary School in Benin City.

A video circulating online shows assailants stripping him naked, beating him and parading him through the streets before taking him to the palace of the Oba of Benin. The incident followed claims that he made disrespectful remarks at a public event in London.
In a statement, the rights group said the attack showed “complete disregard for due process” and violated international human rights standards on dignity and protection from violence. Amnesty called on the Nigerian police to investigate and bring all those involved to justice.
After his release, Obaseki described the ordeal as traumatic and degrading, saying his captors forced him to kneel in public. He alleged that armed men and known thugs abducted him and marched him through Benin City under the claim that they acted on orders from the palace.
