The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco is moving closer to the knockout stage, with six teams already out and several others fighting to stay alive.
After the matches on Monday, Comoros, Zambia, and Zimbabwe were confirmed as eliminated. They join Botswana, Gabon, and Equatorial Guinea, who had already been knocked out after losing their first two games.
Hosts Morocco finished top of Group A with seven points after beating Zambia 3-0. Mali also moved through from the group after a 0-0 draw with Comoros.
In Group B, Egypt secured first place with a goalless draw against Angola. Angola kept a slim chance of qualifying, while South Africa’s 3-2 win over Zimbabwe ended Zimbabwe’s tournament.

Focus now shifts to Group C, where the battle for qualification continues. The Nigerian national football team has already guaranteed a top spot after winning its first two matches.
Next up is Nigeria versus Uganda. Uganda would be eliminated from the competition if they won. Tanzania, who plays Tunisia in the other game in the group, and Uganda both have one point.
If Nigeria and Uganda draw, Tunisia would still qualify with a draw or a win against Tanzania.
Elsewhere, Botswana remains at the bottom of Group D ahead of their final game against DR Congo. Equatorial Guinea will play already qualified Algeria in Group E, and Gabon will finish their tournament against Côte d’Ivoire in Group F.
