The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) has announced that it has deregistered 50,003 companies for failing to comply with statutory filing requirements.
The Bureau, in a notice on Tuesday, said the affected companies were struck off the register under Section 130(6) of the Companies Act after failing to file annual returns for at least five years.
The notice states that on July 20, August 14, and August 30, 2023, public notices were used to first strike off the companies. According to Ugandan law, the impacted companies had up to 12 months from the date of removal to submit an application to be added back to the register.
The registrar said the 50,003 companies were deregistered after failing to apply for restoration within the required period.
URSB said the full list of deregistered companies has been published on its website and advised the public to consult the bureau for further clarification.
The full notice read, “Pursuant to Section 130(6) of the Companies Act, Cap. 106, and by notices dated 20th July 2023, 14th August 2023, and 30th August 2023, the Registrar of Companies struck some companies off the register for failure to file annual returns for a period of five years.
“Companies desirous of being restored onto the register were required to apply to the Registrar of Companies to be restored within twelve months from the date they were struck off.
“The Registrar of Companies has deregistered 50,003 companies that failed to apply for restoration. The list of these companies can be accessed at our website: https://ursb.go.ug/.”
