Arsenal moved to the top of the Premier League with their first win away to Liverpool in 14 years as Kai Havertz’s early strike secured a 1-0 victory for the Gunners.
Havertz made amends for midweek missed chances by tapping in a precise low cross from Declan Rice.
The result provided the precise response Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta demanded after his side suffered a historic League Cup defeat to fourth-tier Fleetwood on Tuesday.

Liverpool responded with a blistering 30-minute spell after conceding, as manager Andoni Iraola’s frontline of Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, and Bradley Barcola created continuous pressure.
Wirtz curled a free-kick onto the crossbar, while Alexis Mac Allister missed a header over the bar. Isak stayed on his feet despite a pull from Jurrien Timber, missing a connection on Barcola’s cross.

Arsenal threatened on the counterattack as Bruno Guimaraes pulled a shot just wide, and Timber inadvertently blocked a Noni Madueke cross intended for Havertz.
Arsenal reset after half-time to neutralise Liverpool’s momentum as the hosts tired. Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker produced a diving save to turn Christos Tzolis’s low effort behind, keeping his side in the match.
However, the defending champions held firm to record another clean sheet and secure their eighth win in nine league games. The defeat leaves fifth-placed Liverpool nine points behind the leaders, marking just the second loss in 14 matches for Iraola since taking charge.
