The Ministry of Education in Kenya has announced that students seeking further changes to their Grade 10 placements will have another opportunity to apply for a review between January 6 and January 9, 2026.
The Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Migos Ogamba, in a statement on Tuesday, said the additional review window follows the conclusion of the initial placement and review exercise for Grade 10 learners.
The placement of learners into senior school began on December 14 and ended on December 19, 2025, after which students were allowed to apply for a review of their placements from December 23 to December 29. The results of that review have since been released on the placement portal.
The Cabinet Secretary said the ministry received 355,457 applications for review during the first phase, with 211,636 approved.
He added that some applications were declined due to “the absence of the preferred subject combinations or the lack of capacity in the selected schools, and the learners have been advised accordingly.”

“Thus far, a total of 88% of all learners have been placed in line with their original or revised selections. However, interested learners will still have an opportunity to apply for further review from 6th January, 2026 to 9th January, 2026.”
Ogamba noted that some national schools, including Alliance High School, Kenya High School and Mangu High School, each received up to 20,000 applications despite having an average capacity of about 500 slots.
On pathway distribution, he said, “51% of the learners have been placed to the STEM pathway; 38% of the learners have been placed to the Social Sciences pathway, while 11% of the learners have been placed to the Arts & Sports Science pathway.
