The Kano State Police Command has intercepted suspected explosive devices and illegal drugs during two separate security operations carried out in different metropolitan areas of the state.
According to a statement on Friday by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the first operation followed a directive from the Commissioner of Police, which led officers from the Rijiyar Lemo Police Division to execute a search warrant at a house in Tudun Bojuwa, Fagge Local Government Area.
Kiyawa explained that the search resulted in the discovery of two large sacks containing suspicious items. An assessment by the command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) unit revealed that one sack contained six rolls of detonating cords, while the other held 20 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa, along with 220 sachets of suspected Exol tablets. He said investigations were ongoing.

He added that a second operation was carried out by operatives of the Anti-Thuggery Unit during an intelligence-driven patrol in the Sani Mainagge area of Gwale Local Government Area. During the patrol, a tricycle rider was intercepted with three bags suspected of containing dangerous materials.
Further examination by EOD-CBRN experts confirmed that the bags contained about 3,700 electric detonators. Kiyawa said the arrest of the rider led to the apprehension of a suspect identified as Ibrahim Garba, also known as “Manyan Baki,” a 49-year-old from Zamfara State, who allegedly admitted to facilitating the transportation of the items from Nasarawa State to other locations.
The police spokesperson said a thorough investigation has been launched into both incidents.
He also disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, praised the officers involved and urged residents to remain alert. Members of the public were advised to report suspicious activities or objects to the nearest police station and to avoid touching any unfamiliar or suspicious items.
