The Kano State Police Command has arrested three suspects believed to be the principal planners behind the brutal killing of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano, on January 17, 2026.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the arrests followed intelligence-led operations ordered by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to identify and apprehend those responsible for the crime.
Under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, a team of elite operatives arrested the suspects during sting operations on January 17 and 18, 2026.
The suspects are Umar Auwalu, 23, of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters; Isyaku Yakubu, also known as “Chebe”, 40, from Sagagi Quarters; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, popularly called “Wawo”, 21, of Sabon Gida Sharada Quarters, all in Kano.

CSP Kiyawa disclosed that Umar Auwalu, identified as the leader of the group and a nephew of the deceased housewife, confessed to the killings. He also admitted that the same gang had carried out other violent attacks in recent times, including the killing and burning of two housewives in Tudun Yola Quarters, Kano.
Police recovered several items from the suspects, including bloodstained clothing, two mobile phones belonging to the victims, a cutlass, a club (gora), cash allegedly stolen from the victims and other dangerous weapons.
The police command praised the officers involved in the operation and thanked members of the public for their support and cooperation, assuring residents of its determination to ensure that all those responsible face justice.
