Trump: US Economy Outpacing Sluggish Europe

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday said the United States is the world’s “economic engine” and mocked Europe, saying it is “not heading in the right direction,” as tensions grow between Washington and its allies over Greenland.

Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Trump said the global economy depends on the United States.

“The USA is the economic engine on the planet. And when America booms, the entire world booms. It’s been the history,” Trump said.

He also took aim at Europe, saying parts of the continent had changed for the worse.

“I love Europe, and I want to see Europe go good, but it’s not heading in the right direction,” he said.

He added that some areas were “not recognisable”, based on what he said friends had told him after visiting the region.

Trump claimed that while the United States had experienced an “economic miracle,” Europe’s immigration and economic policies had had disastrous results, blaming Europe’s problems on “increasing government spending, unchecked mass migration and endless foreign imports.”

Trump’s comments come as relations between the United States and Europe remain strained, following Trump’s renewed push for the United States to take control of Greenland, a move opposed by European allies.
