At least two people were killed and six others seriously injured in a late-night road accident involving a heavy-duty truck along the Gombe-Yola Road in Gombe State.
The crash occurred around 10:20 p.m. on Tuesday at New Mile 3, close to the entrance of the main dual carriageway in the Gombe axis.
Reports indicate that the incident involved a long, open-body truck carrying bags of rice, which was allegedly parked improperly at the location before the accident.

Confirming the development, the Senior Special Assistant on Security Matters and Intergovernmental Affairs, Yusuf Danbayo, said preliminary assessments pointed to negligence by the truck driver. He explained that early findings showed the vehicle was not properly secured, as the handbrake was insufficiently engaged, leading to the truck rolling uncontrollably.
The truck reportedly rammed into a Toyota Hilux belonging to Mach Operations Hattara and also struck several individuals at the scene, including a member of the Hattara vigilante group and another person whose identity had yet to be confirmed.
Danbayo said the impact resulted in two fatalities at the scene, while six other victims suffered varying degrees of serious injuries.
Emergency responders rushed the injured to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, for urgent treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to the Specialist Hospital, Gombe.
He added that the truck driver has been arrested and is being held at the Tumfure Police Division, pending transfer to the Motor Traffic Department in Gombe for further investigation and prosecution.
Authorities have cautioned motorists, particularly heavy-duty vehicle operators, to observe proper parking procedures along major highways to avoid similar incidents. Investigations into the crash are ongoing.
