Thirty lawmakers from Kano State have resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
Those who resigned include 22 members of the Kano State House of Assembly and eight members of the House of Representatives.
The lawmakers announced their resignation on Saturday and stated they would continue to support the administration of Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf.
The development was confirmed in separate statements issued by Kamaluddeen Shawai, spokesperson to the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, and Sanusi Bature, spokesperson to the governor.
Shawai released the names of 22 state legislators, while Bature listed 8 federal lawmakers.
Kano State has 24 seats in the House of Representatives. Before the resignations, 18 of those seats were held by members elected on the NNPP platform, while six were held by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Several NNPP lawmakers had previously resigned from the party, including Abdulmumin Jibrin (Kiru/Bebeji), Sagir Koki (Kano Municipal), Alhassan Rurum (Rano/Kibiya/Bunkure), and Abdullahi Sani (Rogo/Karaye).

Aliyu Madaki, who represents the Dala constituency and serves as Minority Leader in the House of Representatives, remains aligned with a faction of the NNPP.
Following the latest resignations, 19 of Kano’s 24 seats in the House of Representatives are now held by APC members, while five remain with the NNPP, representing the Kura/Garun Malam/Madobi, Wudil/Garko, Tarauni, Ungogo/Minjibir, and Warawa/Dawakin Kudu constituencies.
In the Kano State House of Assembly, the APC now holds 36 of the 40 seats. Two seats, Ungogo and Kano Municipal, are vacant following the deaths of the incumbents. Two remaining members of the assembly, representing the Kiru and Nasarawa constituencies, are still members of the NNPP.
