Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf will on Monday formally register as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), following his resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) last Friday.

The development was disclosed in a statement on Sunday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa.

Dawakin-Tofa said Yusuf’s decision to rejoin the APC was based on prevailing realities of governance, national cohesion and development. According to Dawakin-Tofa, Yusuf first joined the APC in 2014 and won the party’s primary election for the Kano Central Senatorial seat before conceding the ticket to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

He added that Yusuf would “formally register as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano on Monday, January 26, 2026.”

Dawakin-Tofa quoted Yusuf in the statement, saying that rejoining the APC would strengthen cooperation with the Nigerian government and accelerate development in Kano State.

“Rejoining the APC will further strengthen cooperation with the Federal Government, accelerate infrastructural development, enhance security coordination and improve service delivery across Kano State,” he said.

He added that the move would also contribute to political stability and unity in the state. According to him, Yusuf will register alongside 22 members of the Kano State House of Assembly, eight members of the House of Representatives and the 44 local government chairmen in the state.

The governor is also expected to officially flag off the APC’s electronic registration exercise in Kano on the same day, Dawakin-Tofa disclosed.
