One football fan was killed, and five others were injured in clashes between rival supporters following a match in the Colombian city of Cúcuta, police said on Wednesday.

The violence ocurred outside the stadium after Tuesday’s local league game between Cúcuta Deportivo and long-time rivals Atlético Bucaramanga, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

Police said the deceased supporter died after being stabbed during the confrontation.

Local media identified the victim as a Bucaramanga fan. Three police officers were also among those wounded, according to a police source cited by AFP.

Authorities had barred Bucaramanga supporters from entering the stadium to prevent unrest, a common security measure for visiting fans in Colombia.

According to independent investigations, football-related violence has claimed at least 150 lives in the country since 2008, though no official figures exist.

The latest incident follows clashes between rival supporters during Colombia’s cup final in Medellín last December, when fighting in the stands and on the pitch left 59 people injured.
