Arsenal eased any fears of a slip in their bid for a first Premier League title in 22 years with an emphatic 4–0 victory away to Leeds on Saturday.

The win extended the Gunners’ lead to seven points over Manchester City and Aston Villa, who both play on Sunday, as Mikel Arteta’s side took another decisive step towards the championship at Elland Road.

A shock home defeat to Manchester United last weekend capped a run of just two points from a possible nine, raising doubts after Arsenal finished as runners-up in the previous three seasons.

Those concerns deepened before kick-off when Bukayo Saka suffered an injury in the warm-up. However, his replacement, Noni Madueke, made a decisive impact as Arsenal inflicted only a second defeat in 12 matches on Leeds.

Madueke delivered the cross that allowed Martin Zubimendi to head Arsenal in front, before Leeds goalkeeper Karl Darlow deflected another dangerous delivery from the winger into his net before half-time.

Despite their recent strong form, Leeds remain only six points above the relegation zone. Their first home loss since November was sealed when Viktor Gyokeres met Gabriel Martinelli’s cross to fire in his 11th goal since joining from Sporting Lisbon.

Gabriel Jesus completed the rout with a powerful strike four minutes from time.

Arsenal will now look to local rivals Tottenham to take points off Manchester City, while Aston Villa host Brentford. Chelsea could move into the top four later if they continue their strong start under Liam Rosenior against West Ham, while Liverpool host Newcastle in the late kick-off.

Elsewhere, Everton salvaged a 1–1 draw at Brighton through Beto’s 97th-minute equaliser after Pascal Gross had given the hosts the lead. Bournemouth eased relegation fears with a 2–0 win at Wolves, thanks to goals from Eli Kroupi and Alex Scott, moving 13 points clear of the drop zone.
