Rybakina, Sabalenka Set for US Open Final

Belarusian tennis player Aryna Sabalenka aims to secure her third consecutive US Open title as she faces Elena Rybakina in a blockbuster final at Flushing Meadows.

Sabalenka reached her fourth straight New York final after dominating Jessica Pegula in straight sets.

Despite losing her world number one ranking to Rybakina during the tournament, the 28-year-old Belarusian declared herself ready for a tough physical and mental battle to claim the trophy.

Rybakina reached her first US Open final by rallying from a set down to defeat 2023 champion Coco Gauff. The 27-year-old Kazakhstani player overcame a recent heel injury that had threatened her participation at Flushing Meadows.

Having already secured the top ranking by reaching the semi-finals, Rybakina now seeks her third Grand Slam title and another victory over Sabalenka following her Australian Open final win in January.

While Sabalenka holds a 10-7 head-to-head lead over her rival, both players acknowledge the fine margins that define their high-powered matchups.

Sabalenka downplayed the distraction of a potential three-peat and the loss of her top ranking, emphasising that winning the title remains her sole priority.

Rybakina similarly focused on execution over pressure, treating the final as a pure test of performance rather than a personal rivalry.
