The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External results, with more than 80 per cent of candidates recording at least five credits.

NECO Registrar and Chief Executive Dantani Wushishi announced the release on Tuesday at a press conference at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

“It is my pleasure to declare the 2025 SSCE External Results released,” Wushishi said in a video shared on NECO’s official X account.

Wushishi added that candidates can check their results on NECO’s website at www.neco.gov.ng using their examination registration numbers.

According to him, 96,979 candidates registered for the examination across 16 subjects, comprising 51,823 males (53.43 per cent) and 45,156 females (46.56 per cent).

Of that number, 95,160 candidates eventually sat for the examination.

Of the 93,425 applicants who took the English test, 73,167 (78.32%) obtained a credit or higher. However, 85,256 (91.35%) of the 93,330 applicants who took the maths test were awarded credit or higher.

While 82,082 candidates (86.26 percent) earned five credits and above without obtaining English or mathematics, 68,166 candidates (71.63 percent) earned five credits and above with both.

On examination malpractice, Wushishi said 9,016 candidates were booked for various offences, representing a 31.7 per cent increase compared with 6,160 cases recorded in 2024.

Five supervisors, two from the Federal Capital Territory and one each from the states of Kano, Adamawa, and Ondo, were suggested to be placed on a blacklist for aiding and abetting malpractice, he continued.

Four examination centres, including two in Niger State and one each in Yobe and Kano states, were also recommended for de-recognition over whole-centre malpractice.

The SSCE External exam is primarily intended for private candidates seeking to improve their prior results or obtain secondary school certification outside the traditional school system.
