Gunmen killed more than 45 people in coordinated attacks on three villages in Niger State, a humanitarian source told AFP on Saturday, raising the death toll from earlier reports of at least 32 fatalities.
News Central had earlier reported that at least 32 people were killed in attacks on the Tunga-Makeri, Konsoko and Pissa communities in the Borgu Local Government Area, according to residents and local officials.
Residents said the first attack occurred in Tunga-Makeri around 3:00 a.m., where six people were killed. The gunmen later struck Konsoko and Pissa at about 6:00 a.m., setting several buildings, including a police outpost, on fire.
However, a humanitarian source who spoke to AFP on condition of anonymity said the number of victims was higher, putting the death toll at more than 45.

According to the source, 38 people were shot dead or had their throats cut in Konsoko, where nearly all homes were burned.
Seven people were killed in Tunga-Makeri and one in Pissa. The source said more bodies were expected to be recovered.
Police in Niger State confirmed six deaths and several abductions during a dawn raid on Tunga-Makeri but did not immediately confirm casualty figures for the other villages.
The affected communities are located in Borgu near the border with Kwara State, where more than 160 people were killed by suspected terrorists in early February.
