Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has come under intense criticism after a viral video of him pledging to secure victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council Elections went viral.

AbdulRazaq reportedly told party members in the video, which was recorded at a recent political event, that he and other APC committee members were dedicated to collaborating with local leaders and stakeholders to ensure the party’s electoral success in all six of Abuja’s council boundaries.

He reportedly said he was confident that voters would support the APC and demonstrate that it remains a “reliable vessel” for Nigeria’s progress.

The governor’s remarks have sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many Nigerians questioning his priorities as communities in Kwara grapple with insecurity.

The backlash follows a recent video released by suspected terrorists showing some of the victims from the February 3 attack on the Woro community in the Kaiama Local Government Area.

In response, the Kwara State Government, through the Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, on Saturday, said authorities are working with security agencies to verify the video and identify the individuals shown.

Olukoju stated that conflicting reports on the number of abducted persons have complicated official confirmation. She added that the government’s main concern remains the safe rescue of all affected residents and holding perpetrators accountable.

Despite the official response, AbdulRazaq’s FCT comments have continued to draw sharp criticism online.

On X(formerly Twitter), several users condemned the governor’s focus on electoral politics over public safety.

One user accused him of prioritising votes over the welfare of his people, while another said that a governor’s oath is to protect and serve residents, not to deliver an election outcome.

Everything Politics (@Everypolitics1) stated, “The oath of office is to serve the people of Kwara and not to deliver the FCT for any political party. Governance is about security, development and accountability, not electoral strategy.”

Others stated the contrast between ongoing terrorist threats in Kwara and the governor’s pledge to secure votes in Abuja, describing it as tone-deaf or politically misplaced.

The controversy showcases growing frustration among citizens over repeated violent attacks in the state, including killings, abductions, and the circulation of threatening letters.

Security officials continue operations in affected areas, while calls for urgent attention to public safety and accountability remain strong among residents and observers.
