Florida Airport to Be Renamed After Donald Trump

A bill coursing through the Legislature proposes renaming Palm Beach County’s airport after President Donald Trump (South Florida Sun Sentinel)

An airport in Florida will be renamed after US President Donald Trump after the state legislature approved a bill backing the change on Thursday.

According to state records, the Republican-controlled legislature voted to rename Palm Beach International Airport as the “President Donald J. Trump International Airport.”

Governor Ron DeSantis, who previously clashed with Trump politically, is expected to sign the measure into law.

The airport, located in Palm Beach, a coastal town known for its beaches and upscale estates, sits just minutes from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence.

The proposed name change will still require approval from the Federal Aviation Administration before it can take effect. If finalised, the airport would join a growing list of institutions bearing Trump’s name.

In December, the board overseeing the John F. Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts voted to rebrand the venue as the “Trump-Kennedy Center.”

Media reports have also indicated that Trump explored renaming New York’s Penn Station and Dulles International Airport after himself, though those proposals did not advance.

Separately, the US Treasury Department has confirmed that draft designs have been prepared for a commemorative $1 coin featuring Trump’s likeness, despite longstanding laws prohibiting the depiction of a sitting or living president on US currency.
