Hundreds of demonstrators marched through Paris on Saturday to show solidarity with Ukraine, days ahead of the fourth anniversary of Russia’s invasion.

Demonstrators chanted messages backing Ukraine and calling for the confiscation of Russian assets, saying they rightfully belong to the Ukrainian people.

European Parliament member Raphael Glucksmann told AFP that public support for Ukraine in France has remained strong since the invasion began on February 24, 2022.  He noted, however, that within the political establishment, there are increasing calls to give up, especially from both far-left and far-right groups.

“In public opinion, there is massive support for Ukraine that has not wavered since the first day of the full-scale invasion”,

“On the other hand, in the French political class, sounds of giving up are starting to emerge. On both the far left and the far right, voices of capitulation are getting louder and louder,” he added.

Since the start of the year, the group has delivered approximately forty generators to communities affected by the conflict.

The war, Europe’s deadliest since World War II, has left tens of thousands of civilians and hundreds of thousands of soldiers dead.

Millions of Ukrainians have fled their homes, and significant portions of the country have been destroyed by ongoing fighting.

Russian forces continue to occupy nearly 20 per cent of Ukrainian territory, with repeated attacks on energy infrastructure causing a major energy crisis.
