APC Wins Kano Assembly Bye-Elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured victory in the bye-elections conducted for the Ungogo and Kano Municipal constituencies of the Kano State House of Assembly.

The elections, held on Saturday, were organised to fill vacancies created by the deaths of two lawmakers in December: Aminu Sa’adu, who represented Ungogo, and Sarki Aliyu, who represented Kano Municipal.

The sons of the deceased legislators contested the seats on the APC platform.

Similarly, in Ungogo Constituency, Aminu Sa’adu Jr. secured 8,975 votes to clinch the seat. The Returning Officer for the constituency, Ali Abdullahi, formally returned Mr Sa’adu as the winner of the poll.

Despite the APC’s clean sweep, the exercise was characterised by low voter turnout across several polling units.

Addressing journalists while monitoring the process, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kano State, Abdu Zango, attributed the low participation to the timing of the elections and limited involvement by other political parties. He described the exercise as generally peaceful, though acknowledging that turnout was below expectations.
