In a bid to enhance the local economy and strengthen connectivity in rural areas, Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has officially commissioned the 4.7km Oko–Amakom/Oko–Obiokpu Road in Oshimili South Local Government Area (LGA) on Friday.
This vital road project, designed to improve access to predominantly farming communities, is expected to ease the movement of agricultural produce to markets, boost trade, and significantly improve security and emergency response within the region.
Governor Oborevwori emphasised the importance of the road in fostering economic growth, saying, the road will serve as a critical link for rural communities, enhancing their ability to trade and improve their livelihoods. He highlighted that the project was a key part of the state’s rural development strategy, with infrastructure playing a central role in enhancing local productivity and security.

Alongside this initiative, the Governor also commissioned improvements to Amechi Agusi Street and the adjoining In Asaba Street under the state’s urban renewal program. These projects aim to improve local transportation networks, reduce the risk of flooding, and enhance connectivity within Asaba, the state capital.
Governor Oborevwori noted that these projects underwent thorough inspections to ensure quality and accountability. He also announced that Phase 2 of the Oko–Amakom/Oko–Obiokpu Road project has been approved to extend its benefits further.
These infrastructure developments are a clear manifestation of the Delta State Government’s MORE Agenda, which aims to drive inclusive growth, improve livelihoods, and boost rural productivity across the state.
Through such initiatives, Governor Oborevwori aims to create lasting economic opportunities for Delta’s rural population, contributing to the state’s overall development.
