Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has directed all political appointees planning to contest elective positions in the 2027 general elections to step down from their roles on or before March 30, 2026.

The directive was communicated in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, and released to journalists in Makurdi on Friday.

According to the statement, the governor said the move is part of efforts to sustain the pace of development across the state, stressing that political ambitions should not slow governance.

He noted that early resignations would allow for the timely appointment of replacements, ensuring continuity in government operations.

Alia, who reaffirmed his commitment to delivering on his mandate, said his administration remains focused on improving infrastructure and public service delivery. He pointed to ongoing road projects and a more efficient civil service as indicators of progress.

The governor maintained that his priority is to improve the lives of Benue residents and reposition the state for sustainable growth, adding that he remains resolute in fulfilling the promises made to the people.

“I invite all people of good conscience to join hands with me so that we can make Benue a place that attracts everybody.

“When you see earthmoving machines working on our hitherto dilapidated roads, that is development. When you see civil servants going to work and closing happily, that is development.

“I have started, I am midway, and I am more determined to do more because that was my covenant with the Benue people. I cannot tender apologies to anyone because I am developing Benue.

“My covenant was with the people. My attention is on how to make them happy. How to rewrite the story of the state for good.

“Therefore, nothing can deter me; nobody can frustrate me to abandon this,” he said.
