Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, dispelled rumours about a rift within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), claiming that the party remains united as it prepares for its national convention on March 29 and 30, 2026.

Wike, speaking after an inspection of various infrastructure projects in the capital, dismissed claims of internal divisions, emphasising that any disagreements within the party do not equate to factionalism.

“We have only one PDP, no faction,” Wike stated firmly, acknowledging that while certain individuals may express dissatisfaction, the notion of multiple factions within the party is simply not true.

“There is only one PDP. Some individuals may not be happy, yes, but there is no faction,” he reiterated, adding that efforts for reconciliation within the party were ongoing, with no contradiction to the upcoming convention preparations.

During the infrastructure inspection, Wike provided updates on several key projects, including the completion of the N5 road project by Julius Berger, which is scheduled for inauguration as part of President Bola Tinubu’s third-anniversary celebrations.

He also inspected the Nigerian Law School’s new staff bungalows, noting that 10 fully furnished units had been completed. However, he raised concerns over delays in the male hostel project, despite contractors’ assurances of completion by October or November 2026.

Wike credited the administration’s progress to prudent resource management, political will, and the unwavering support of President Tinubu.

“It is not about the amount of money, but commitment. You can have all the money and still not achieve results if you are not committed,” he said. He further emphasised that the FCT government avoids awarding contracts it cannot afford, ensuring fiscal responsibility in its infrastructure plans.

Despite the leadership crisis that has beset the PDP since November 2025, Wike’s remarks aim to quell concerns and reassure party members and the public of the party’s unity and focus as it prepares for the forthcoming convention.
