Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted a large consignment of cocaine concealed in heads of imported dry stock fish intended to be exported to India.
The agency’s spokesperson, in a statement issued on Sunday, said the successful operation followed intelligence on their trans-border criminal activities.
According to Babafemi, the operatives recovered 237 wraps of cocaine, weighing 5.80 kilograms, concealed inside stockfish heads locally known as “okporoko,” in three jumbo bags allegedly in possession of a 36-year-old suspect identified as Akputa Dickson Ejike.
The NDLEA spokesperson added that operatives intercepted two illicit consignments at a courier company, bound for the United Kingdom, on March 25.
According to him, one of the shipments that originated from Cotonou, Benin Republic, 1.9 kilograms of methamphetamine were found concealed in automobile filters, while the second parcel contains 40 ampoules of Morphine Sulphate and nine ampoules of Fentanyl.
