US President Donald  Trump announced on Monday that the United States is in the final stages of negotiations with what he described as a “new and more reasonable regime” to end military operations in Iran.

While emphasising the significant progress made in the talks, Trump warned that if an agreement is not reached soon and the Hormuz Strait remains closed, the US would be forced to take drastic action.

“Great progress has been made but, if for any reason a deal is not shortly reached, which it probably will be, and if the Hormuz Strait is not immediately ‘Open for Business,’ we will conclude our lovely ‘stay’ in Iran by blowing up and completely obliterating all of their Electric Generating Plants, Oil Wells and Kharg Island (and possibly all desalinization plants!), which we have purposefully not yet ‘touched’. He said.

The statement was framed as a response to the perceived violence inflicted on American soldiers and citizens by the Iranian regime over the past 47 years, referring to the long-standing tensions under the previous Iranian leadership.

The former president underscored that this would serve as retribution for the “butchery” committed by the old regime during its reign.

This threat of military escalation signals the high stakes surrounding the ongoing negotiations and reflects the continued tensions between the United States and Iran, as well as the potential for a volatile conclusion should diplomacy fail.
