US President Donald Trump lashed out at the Norwegian Nobel Committee during a Friday campaign rally in Syracuse, New York, calling their decision to pass him over for the Nobel Peace Prize “an indelible stain on the country of Norway.”

Speaking to supporters while campaigning for local Republican candidates, Trump insisted his administration deserved the honour for resolving multiple international conflicts and claimed he has “saved more lives than anyone in history.”

The committee instead awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize to Navi Pillay, an 85-year-old South African legal pioneer who led a United Nations panel examining the war in Gaza.

Trump dismissed the choice before the crowd, stating, “I’ve never heard of the person. I know a lot of people. I never heard of this particular person, but congratulations, anyway.”

He argued that the United States should have received the prize through his leadership, declaring that “a handful of radical ideologues has forever discredited the Nobel Peace Prize.”

“The United States of America, represented by me as your president, should have received the Nobel Peace Prize but didn’t,” Trump said.

During his speech, the US President claimed he deserved as many as eight peace prizes for ending ongoing global wars, though ongoing military engagements with Iran and the continuing conflict in Ukraine remain unresolved.

Upon learning of her selection at a legal gathering in Germany, Pillay light-heartedly referenced Trump’s long-sought ambition for the award, joking to the audience, “If you clap a little bit more, I may share this prize with Trump.”

Turning his attention to state politics, Trump campaigned alongside Republican gubernatorial nominee Bruce Blakeman and state attorney general nominee Saritha Komatireddy before launching personal attacks against sitting Democratic Attorney General Letitia James.

Highlighting their long-standing legal feuds, Trump urged voters to oust James and Governor Kathy Hochul on Election Day.

A spokesperson for James responded by emphasising the contrast between the candidates, pointing out that Trump’s endorsed candidate clerked for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
