Florida Airport to Be Renamed After Trump

A bill coursing through the Legislature proposes renaming Palm Beach County’s airport after President Donald Trump (South Florida Sun Sentinel)

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a bill to rename Palm Beach International Airport as “President Donald J. Trump International Airport,” pending final administrative steps.

The proposed name change still requires procedural updates, including adjustments by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), although the agency clarified that airport naming decisions fall under local authority.

In a statement, the FAA explained that while it does not approve name changes, it must complete administrative processes such as updating navigational charts and official databases.

“Changing an airport name is a local issue and the FAA does not approve airport name changes.

“However, the FAA must complete some administrative tasks to include updating navigational charts and databases,” it said.

The airport is located about two miles from Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach.

The move comes as Trump continues efforts to leave his imprint on public institutions since returning to office in January 2025, attaching his name to major cultural and national landmarks, including the John F. Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts in Washington.
