The Bauchi State caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected efforts to bring Governor Bala Mohammed into the party.
The position was announced after a caucus meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday night, where members said they unanimously opposed any plan to admit the governor.
The development follows reports that Mohammed had been considering a move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), after speculation about recent engagements with APC leaders, including the National Chairman of the APC, Nentawe Yilwatda, alongside the Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, were aimed at persuading him to reconsider and join the ruling party instead.
Speaking after the meeting, caucus chairman and senator representing Bauchi North, Sama’ila Dahuwa, said the group reached a firm decision after extensive deliberations, maintaining that admitting the governor at this time would harm the party.
He noted that Mohammed had repeatedly criticised President Bola Tinubu and the APC in the past, without retracting those remarks or making any reconciliation efforts.

According to him, bringing the governor into the party under such circumstances could undermine its unity, credibility, and electoral strength in Bauchi State.
“In view of the foregoing, the caucus firmly holds that his admission into the APC at this time will be detrimental to the party’s cohesion, credibility, and electoral prospects in Bauchi State,” Dahuwa stated.
The caucus also raised concerns over what it described as a lack of consultation with key stakeholders on a matter of such significance, warning that due process must be followed in line with the party’s internal democratic principles.
It said its position would be formally communicated to the party’s national leadership.
Meanwhile, indications suggest that Mohammed may be reassessing his reported plan to leave the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), following recent consultations with political allies and stakeholders in the state.
Sources said the PDP in Bauchi has set up a committee to review its political options amid growing uncertainty over the governor’s next move.
State PDP chairman Samaila Burga confirmed the development, noting that the committee, chaired by Deputy Governor Auwal Jatau, includes representatives from various levels of government and party structures.
He said the committee would engage widely before presenting its recommendations to stakeholders, who will determine the party’s political direction in the state.
