The Russian government stated on Thursday that the newly announced ceasefire between the United States and Iran should extend to include Lebanon.

This diplomatic push follows Israel’s recent declaration that it intends to proceed with military strikes against Hezbollah despite the regional truce.

During a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov emphasised that any peace agreements must have a broad regional scope to be effective.

In a formal statement from Moscow, ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova explicitly condemned the ongoing Israeli operations in Lebanese territory.

She warned that such “aggressive actions” pose a direct threat to the fragile diplomatic progress currently taking place between Washington and Tehran.

Russia maintains that the exclusion of Lebanon from the current ceasefire could ultimately destabilise the entire negotiation process intended to end the broader Middle East conflict.
