An airstrike by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reportedly hit a market along the Borno-Yobe border, causing civilian casualties.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening at Dilli Market in Yobe State, close to the Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State.
The spokesperson of the Yobe State Police Command, Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the incident to Punch News, stating that authorities were aware and still gathering details, with no confirmed casualty figures yet.
He noted that security agencies had been deployed to assess the situation and that verified updates would be provided once investigations are complete.
“We are aware of the incident that occurred at Dilli Market along the Borno–Yobe border, and we are currently gathering information on what transpired. At this moment, we do not have confirmed casualty figures, as details are still being verified.
“Security agencies are on the ground assessing the situation, while efforts are ongoing to ensure proper documentation and response, after which the public will be duly informed with accurate and official updates.”

Dilli Market is a major trading hub that attracts buyers and sellers from surrounding communities, including Giedam in Yobe and parts of Borno, such as Gubio, Chibok axis, and Benisheikh.
Local sources said the airstrike was part of a military operation targeting suspected Boko Haram insurgents believed to be active in the area. The fighters were reportedly known to frequent the market to collect levies and obtain supplies.
However, sources indicated that the jet may have missed its intended target, resulting in casualties among civilians.
Unofficial reports suggest that at least 10 people were killed, with several others injured.
Emergency response efforts are ongoing, with the wounded said to be receiving treatment in hospitals in Giedam and Damaturu.
