The Nigerian government has declared that physical verification of academic credentials will be phased out in favour of a fully online approach aimed at increasing openness, efficiency, and public service delivery.

The Federal Ministry of Education confirmed this in a statement signed by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations.

The ministry stated that the new system is consistent with the Nigerian Government’s digital transformation plan and commitment to using technology to increase efficiency, assure data integrity, and promote evidence-based policy decisions in the education sector.

“With the introduction of the new system, all applications for authentication and evaluation of academic credentials will now be processed strictly online through the Ministry’s official verification portal,” the statement read

According to the ministry, applicants seeking authentication or evaluation of academic certificates must now register and upload all needed papers using the official site, essverify.education.gov.ng.

It Physical visits to the ministry for credential verification will no longer be required, as the procedure is totally computerised.

According to the government, the new method will streamline procedures, minimise processing time, and improve the legitimacy of academic verification in Nigeria.

Applicants were asked to follow the new rules to ensure that their petitions were processed efficiently.

They must also contact their institutions to request that transcripts be delivered directly from official institutional email addresses to [email protected] for verification and processing.
