The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has taken into custody two examination candidates and one parent for using Artificial Intelligence and other electronic methods to alter their 2026 UTME results, the board said Friday.

The arrests were announced on the same day JAMB released scores for 632,788 candidates who took the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination on Thursday, April 16.

According to a statement by JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin, the suspects manipulated official SMS result notifications to create fake scores meant to mislead parents, guardians and others.

“Currently, two candidates and one parent are in custody for engaging in result falsification using AI and other electronic means,” Benjamin said.

He warned that such conduct is a serious criminal offence and that the board would prosecute anyone found guilty to the full extent of the law.

Benjamin also advised candidates not to tamper with result messages sent from JAMB’s official SMS shortcodes, 55019 and 66019.

Candidates who sat for Thursday’s examination can check their scores by texting “UTMERESULT” to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number used during registration.

Official result slips cannot be printed yet, as that option will be made available later.

The 2026 UTME started on April 16 and continues until April 22 at examination centres across the country. More results will be released in batches as the examination proceeds.
