Four people have been rescued from the River Seine near Paris after a bus driven by a trainee driver collided with a parked vehicle and plunged into the water, authorities said.
The incident occurred in Juvisy-sur-Orge, southeast of the French capital, when the bus veered off the road and entered the river under unclear circumstances, officials said.
Prosecutors said the driver and three passengers were on board at the time of the crash and confirmed that all four were rescued after emergency operations.
“The driver and three other people were on the bus,” prosecutors said.
They added that police have opened an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
Local lawmaker Claire Lejeune said the vehicle was being operated by a trainee driver under supervision at the time of the crash.
Officials did not immediately disclose the condition of those rescued.
An AFP journalist reported that the bus became fully submerged near a bridge, while the parked vehicle it struck also ended up in the river.
Emergency responders deployed several rescue boats, a drone and helicopters in a large-scale recovery effort.
Authorities said casualty figures were still being assessed, noting that significant emergency resources had been mobilised at the scene.
