Three aides to President Bola Tinubu have slammed former presidential candidate Peter Obi following his departure from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), with one labelling him a “political nomad” and “opportunistic.”
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, responded shortly after Obi explained his decision to leave the ADC, citing recurring court cases, internal divisions, and hostility similar to his experience in the Labour Party.
“We told you so. The political nomad is on the move again,” Onanuga wrote on X.
“Peter Obi is a politician made of jelly, an opportunistic fellow. He can’t fight Atiku or Amaechi for the ticket of ADC. He pursues the easy road, that will only lead him to doom, like in 2023.”
Onanuga also dismissed Obi’s reasons for leaving as “puerile” and “illogical musings.”
“He always blames the government without doing a soul-searching of himself. Welcome, Peter to the 2027 race,” Onanuga added.
We told you so. The political nomad is on the move again. Ignore all those puerile reasons he gave in these illogical musings, a self-serving letter to his mob. Another presidential aide, Dada Olusegun, also commented on Obi’s departure.
“They tried to blame President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their internal troubles but God has vindicated him and the APC again,” Olusegun wrote.

Temitope Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, also weighed in on X, saying, “It is only Peter Obi that can ‘wake up in the morning’ after his church service with a ‘deep reflective heart.'”

Earlier on Sunday, Obi had explained that his exit from the ADC was not due to personal mistreatment by party leaders such as Senator David Mark or former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, whom he said he continues to respect.
“Let me state clearly: my decision to leave the ADC is not because our highly respected Chairman, Senator David Mark, treated me badly, nor because my leader and elder brother, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, or any other respected leaders did anything personally wrong to me. I will continue to respect them,” Obi wrote.
Instead, he blamed systemic issues, saying the same forces that created crises within the Labour Party now appear to be finding their way into the ADC.
“The same Nigerian state and its agents that created unnecessary crises and hostility within the Labour Party that forced me to leave now appear to be finding their way into the ADC, with endless court cases, internal battles, suspicion, and division,” he said.
Obi also stated that he is not desperate to become President, Vice President, or Senate President, but is desperate to see a Nigeria where citizens do not suffer from hunger, displacement, or insecurity.
