Italian prodigy Kimi Antonelli has reinforced his growing dominance in Formula One after securing a landmark victory at the Miami Grand Prix, extending his lead in the drivers’ championship with a composed, strategic performance for Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team.
The 19-year-old Italian delivered a measured drive to finish 3.264 seconds ahead of reigning world champion Lando Norris of McLaren F1 Team, with Oscar Piastri completing the podium in third.
The result marks a historic milestone, as Antonelli became the first driver in Formula One history to convert his first three pole positions into three consecutive race wins, following earlier victories in China and Japan.
Despite facing early pressure, Antonelli remained composed in a race defined by incidents, safety car interruptions, and evolving track conditions. He initially lost ground during a chaotic opening phase but regained control through a decisive undercut strategy during the pit stops, a move that ultimately proved race-defining.
“What a race. The team executed a great strategy, we had a massive undercut, and I was able to bring it home. It was a tough race,” Antonelli said after crossing the line, although admitting to moments of vulnerability
Norris, who briefly led during the race, described the outcome as a missed opportunity, adding that he lacked the pace to challenge decisively in the closing stages.
Behind the leading trio, George Russell finished fourth, ahead of reigning champion Max Verstappen, while Charles Leclerc endured a frustrating race that ended with a spin on the penultimate lap.
The race, which marked Formula One’s return after a five-week break, was punctuated by early collisions involving multiple drivers and a safety car deployment that reshaped the order. Changing weather conditions and strategic decisions further intensified the contest.
With three consecutive victories from pole, Antonelli has not only extended his championship advantage but has also signalled a significant shift in the competitive order, positioning himself as the early benchmark in this season’s title race.
