The Nigerian Senate has passed the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) 2026 budget totalling ₦2.2 trillion, with about 76% of the allocation, approximately ₦1.7 trillion, dedicated to capital projects.

The appropriation bill passed third reading during Thursday’s plenary after the presentation and consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on the FCT on the 2026 FCT Appropriation Bill.

Despite receiving widespread support from lawmakers, some senators expressed concerns over the revenue framework backing the budget.

Sani Musa and the Senate Chief Whip specifically demanded a detailed breakdown of the FCT’s revenue profile and clarification on the funding sources for the proposed expenditure.

The lawmakers argued that providing comprehensive revenue details would strengthen transparency and accountability in the management of public funds.

In his remarks, Godswill Akpabio aligned with the senators’ concerns, stressing the need for accountability in the implementation of the budget.
