The wife of popular Nigerian singer 2Baba, Hon. Natasha Osawaru Idibia, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The Minority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly made this move on Thursday alongside Charity Aiguobarueghian and other political figures from Edo and Gombe States.
The defectors were formally received at a reception held at the Abuja residence of the NDC National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson.
Others who joined the party include Donald Eboigbe, a House of Representatives aspirant for Oredo Federal Constituency, and former Deputy Governor of Gombe State, John Yoriyo.
Dickson, addressing the new entrants, assured them of fairness and equal opportunity within the party. He said the NDC remains committed to internal democracy, discipline, and inclusiveness. He also said the party is open to Nigerians who share its vision.
“The party remains open to all Nigerians who share its vision of good governance, national unity, and inclusive development. It is focused on women and youth participation,” he said.

The NDC National Leader also warned against personal ambition overriding party interest, emphasising the need for unity and structure within political parties. He said that the party’s national leadership was absent due to preparations for its national convention scheduled for Saturday.
During the event, new members received their membership cards and also experienced a brief musical performance by 2Baba. Idibia spoke at the event, expressing her optimism about the party’s future.
“It has not been easy at all. But we thank God that we still have a leader like Senator Dickson. It keeps reminding me of where we are and where the country is supposed to go,” said Idibia.
“It is obvious that the country needs to salute him and the NDC for this. I also believe that very soon, the NDC will take over the country.”
Former House of Representatives member Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma said the movement was gaining national acceptance and could reshape Nigeria’s political landscape.
Speaking on behalf of Edo lawmakers who defected, Aiguobarueghian said the decision followed consultations and careful consideration of the country’s political situation.
Agbonayinma said they took time to observe developments within political parties before deciding on a new direction. He also said past interactions with political leaders influenced his perspective, recalling that he was once told Dickson was “the direction of Nigeria.”
Also speaking was activist Aisha Yesufu, who recently left the ADC, who said the movement represents a turning point in the country’s politics.
She said, “It is obvious that very soon, the NDC will take over the country. The goal is to build a society where the child of nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody.”
Yesufu also told Nigerians not to lose interest in what’s happening in the country and said he hopes for a system where people get chances based on ability, not connections.
