Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has declared his intention to seek re-election in 2027. Abbas, who disclosed this on Saturday, was first elected into the House of Representatives in 2011 and is seeking a fifth consecutive term on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Having won re-election in 2015, 2019, and 2023.
The declaration attracted supporters from across the constituency, with activities beginning at the Emir of Zazzau’s palace, where various solidarity groups gathered, accompanied by music, drumming, and traditional Hausa performances.
Access to Malam Musa Square through the Malam Abdulkarim Gate became difficult as thousands of residents flooded the area in solidarity with the Speaker. Despite waiting for more than four hours for Abbas to arrive from Abuja, the crowd, comprising student associations, women groups, youth organisations, and Persons Living with Disabilities, remained energised before embarking on a several-kilometre walk to the Mallawa Eid Ground, venue of the event.
While addressing the massive crowd, Abbas highlighted his stewardship in the 10th National Assembly and appealed to constituents to sustain what he described as purposeful representation by returning him to the National Assembly.
“This constituency deserves experienced leadership. It deserves strong representation. It deserves continuity,”
“It deserves a voice that understands governance, understands development, and understands how to attract opportunities for our people. This is not the time for uncertainty. This is not the time for experiments. This is the time to consolidate the progress we have made together.
“Our youths need more opportunities. Our traders need stronger support. Our farmers need improved security and infrastructure. Our schools need continued investment. Our communities need sustained development, and I remain fully committed to that mission. I am ready to continue this work, to deepen the progress we have made and to continue representing you with dignity, focus, and results,” he said.

Furthermore, the speaker commended President Bola Tinubu and Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for their efforts to improve the lives of Nigerians, urging continued support for both leaders.
Speaking on behalf of members of the House of Representatives, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu described Abbas as a humble, results-oriented leader deserving of another term.
Kalu disclosed that Governor Uba Sani spoke well about Abbas’ performance in office.
APC chieftain and former senator representing Kaduna North, Suleiman Hunkuyi, also spoke, describing Abbas as a dependable leader whose impact has resonated beyond Zaria.
“The people of Zaria Federal Constituency are here to honour their leader and father, someone who has been very crucial in their development history. They honoured him by trekking for several kilometres to this place because the man has touched their lives in Kaduna State and far beyond,” Hunkuyi said.
Lawmakers who accompanied the Deputy Speaker to the event included Ali Isa, Emeka Chinedu, Nnoli Nnaji, Chike Okafor, and Akin Alabi.
