The family of the Enugu State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Malachy Agbo, has announced the death of his mother, Mrs Laurita Agbo.
Mrs Agbo reportedly died at the Niger Foundation Hospital, Enugu, on Friday, May 8, 2026, after a brief illness.
In a statement issued on Sunday and made available to Punch, the commissioner, speaking on behalf of the family, described his late mother as a devout Catholic and a strong pillar of support to both her family and the wider community.
The statement said Mrs Laurita Nwakaego Agbo was known for her humility, generosity, and selfless service to humanity, adding that she was widely respected for her quiet but consistent contributions to the well-being of others.
It further noted that she made a lasting impact through philanthropic activities and community-focused initiatives, particularly in the Ohodo community and her Amufi village, where she was regarded as a source of inspiration and guidance.

“Mrs. Laurita Nwakaego Agbo was widely admired for her humility, generosity, unpretentiousness, and unwavering commitment to the service of humanity.
“Throughout her lifetime, she positively impacted many lives through her philanthropic activities and community-centred initiatives, particularly in Ohodo community and her Amufi village, where she remained a respected figure and source of inspiration,” the statement read.
The family said tributes had continued to pour in from relatives, friends, associates, and community leaders, who remembered her deep faith, peaceful nature, resilience, and dedication to the welfare of others.
It added that many described her death as a significant loss, noting that she left a deep void not only within the Agbo family but also among those who benefitted from her kindness and motherly counsel.
The commissioner expressed gratitude to those who have reached out with prayers, support, and solidarity during the period of mourning.
The family said funeral and burial arrangements would be announced at a later date.
