Ex-Power Minister Mamman Jailed for 75 Years

A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, to 75 years in prison following his corruption conviction.

Justice James Omotosho delivered the verdict on Wednesday, finding Mamman guilty of 12 counts related to the mismanagement of funds for the Mambilla and Zungeru hydroelectric power projects.

The judge ordered that the sentences for each count run consecutively, resulting in the lengthy prison term.

The court has issued a directive to all security agencies to locate and apprehend the former minister, as the jail sentence is set to commence immediately upon his arrest.

In addition to the prison time, Justice Omotosho ordered the forfeiture of all recovered assets and funds to the Nigerian government.

Mamman is also required to repay the outstanding balance of the N22 billion linked to the energy projects.

The court observed the devastating effect of financial malpractice on national development, such as the diversion of funds meant for vital infrastructure, including the Mambilla and Zungeru plants.
