Nigerian taxpayers can now engage with dispute resolution mechanisms without unnecessary administrative burdens or delays, the Minister of Finance has said, as he unveiled new digital platforms for the Office of the Tax Ombud.
Taiwo Oyedele announced the launch of a website, call centre and portal on Monday in Abuja, describing the initiative as a major step toward building fairness and trust in the country’s tax system.
“A modern tax system must be built not only on efficient revenue collection but also on fairness, accountability, transparency and trust,” Oyedele said.
He said the office is designed to serve as “an independent, impartial and accessible platform for resolving complaints, mediating disputes and addressing systemic issues affecting taxpayers across the country.”

The minister said that disputes are inevitable in tax administration, but stressed that taxpayers must have confidence in the resolution process.
“Taxpayers must have confidence that when disputes arise, because they always arise, that they will be heard fairly, treated respectfully and provided with accessible and affordable timely resolution mechanisms,” he said.
Oyedele noted that the virtual platforms would leverage technology to improve accessibility, particularly for taxpayers in remote locations.
“Taxpayers, regardless of location, can now engage more easily with the dispute resolution process without unnecessary administrative burdens or delays,” he said.
The minister described the launch as “an important milestone in Nigeria’s fiscal reform journey” and a reflection of the government’s commitment to strengthening taxpayer protection.
