I Would Have Delivered Victory in Osun for Tinubu – Wike

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has said he could have secured victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the recently concluded governorship election in Osun State if President Bola Tinubu had wanted it.

Wike, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and an ally of the president, made the remark while inspecting flood-prone areas in Maitama, Abuja.

According to him, Tinubu allowed the election to take place without using the national government’s influence to sway the outcome in the APC’s favour.

“If the President had wanted to win the Osun State election at all costs, I would have been there, and we would have won it, and there’s nothing the governor can do,” Wike said.

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party, won and polled 511,067 votes after securing victory in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas.

He defeated his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the APC, who secured 444,815 votes and won 11 local government areas.

Wike added that the election outcome showed the national government did not deploy its full influence to favour the APC.

“There was no federal might used in Osun. When you see the force and might of the Federal Government, you will know,” he said.

“Ordinarily, Adeleke would have been with the APC if things had worked out well,” he added.

The FCT minister also predicted that Tinubu would face a less difficult contest in the 2027 presidential election.

“The 2027 elections will be the easier one for the President compared to 2023,” he said.

He attributed his prediction to what he described as the opposition parties’ weakened state.
