Rwanda has introduced temporary travel restrictions barring passengers arriving from or transiting through the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) as part of public health measures to prevent the spread of the virus into the country.

The country’s Ministry of Health, in a statement issued on Friday, assured the public that there are currently no cases of Ebola in Rwanda and announced that all foreign nationals who have travelled to or transited through the DRC in the past 30 days will be barred from entering Rwanda.

“All foreign nationals who have travelled to, or transited through, the DRC within the last thirty (30) days prior to their intended travel to Rwanda will be denied entry,” the ministry said in a statement.

“Rwandan nationals and foreign residents with valid proof of residency in Rwanda will be permitted entry. However, those who have travelled to or transited through the DRC within the same thirty (30)-day period will be subject to mandatory quarantine procedures in line with public health protocols.”

After the statement was released, RwandAir announced new entry rules in line with those of the Rwandan Ministry of Health.

Under the measures, foreign nationals who have been in or transited through the DRC within the last 30 days will not be allowed entry into Rwanda.

RwandAir said the measures are intended to protect passengers and crew.

“Foreign nationals who have been in or transited through the DRC within the last 30 days will not be allowed entry into Rwanda,” the airline said.

It added that affected travellers can contact their travel agents or reach the airline’s reservations team for assistance with changes to their bookings.
