Yusuf Tuggar, former minister of foreign affairs, has lost the All Progressives Congress governorship ticket for the 2027 election in Bauchi State, finishing second in Saturday’s primary.

Mohammed Abubakar, a former governor of the state, secured 57,517 votes to clinch the ticket, according to results announced by John Abang, chairman of the APC governorship and house of assembly primary committee.

Tuggar finished a distant second with 26,001 votes. Nura Manu Soro polled 13,638 votes, Bala Wunti recorded 13,648 votes, and Kabir Ma’aji scored 8,157 votes.

Abang declared Abubakar the party’s flagbearer after results were compiled across the state.

Tuggar had resigned from his ministerial position on March 30, complying with President Bola Tinubu’s directive requiring all political appointees seeking elective office in 2027 to step down before participating in party primaries.

His defeat follows similar losses suffered by other former ministers, including Adebayo Adelabu in Oyo State and Saidu Alkali in Gombe State, who also resigned from the Federal Executive Council to pursue governorship ambitions but failed to secure their party’s tickets.
