US Embassy, Lagos Consulate to Close for Memorial Day

The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Monday, May 25, 2026, in observance of Memorial Day, the U.S. Mission Nigeria has announced.

The mission disclosed this in a short post on X on Sunday.

“The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Monday, May 25, 2026, in observance of Memorial Day – a U.S. federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May in honour of U.S. military personnel who lost their lives in service of their country,” the mission said.

The embassy and consulate are expected to resume normal operations on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

Memorial Day is observed annually across the United States to remember and honour military personnel who died while serving in the country’s armed forces.
