A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed, has officially named Senator Sandy Onor as its consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

The Chairman of the PDP Presidential Primaries Collation Committee and former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, announced the decision on Tuesday during the presentation of primary results at the Wadata Plaza national secretariat in Abuja.

Onor emerged as the sole aspirant after purchasing his expression of interest and nomination forms earlier this month.

Ortom stated that the committee finalised the choice after extensive consultations and voice votes among party members across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Following the announcement, the party leadership, led by National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, presented Onor with his certificate of return and the official party flag.

National Commissioners Abdullahi Zuru and Prof. Rhoda Habor Gumus led a team from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to monitor the entire exercise.

The faction used the event as a public show of unity, declaring that the PDP has finally stabilised and moved past the internal crises that previously weakened the platform.

Party leaders insisted that this consensus process proves the party has regained its political direction and stands as the only true opposition force capable of defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

In his acceptance speech, Onor dismissed rival opposition alliances like the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition as unstable bubbles driven by personal ambition rather than a shared vision.

Promising a pan-Nigerian leadership style, Onor argued that his future administration would heavily fund local governments to combat rural poverty, which he identified as the primary driver of national insecurity, unemployment, and banditry.
