Alex Otti has commissioned the Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal in Umuahia, describing the facility as a major step toward building a modern and sustainable transportation system in Abia State.

The newly commissioned terminal is a multimodal transport hub designed to accommodate more than 340 buses at once. According to the governor, the facility is powered by sustainable infrastructure and integrated with the state’s growing network of electric buses.

The Abia state governor said the terminal was named after Prof. Nnenna Nnennaya-Oti, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer during the 2023 governorship election in Abia State, in recognition of what he described as her courage, integrity, and patriotism.

He noted that the honour goes beyond one individual and also recognises electoral officials, security personnel, party agents, and citizens who stood against intimidation during the election process.

“With 20 electric buses already in operation and more on the way in the coming weeks, the project signals our bold vision for a modern, safe, and sustainable transport system in Abia,” Otti said.

The governor added that the terminal has independent power and water systems to ensure uninterrupted operations.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Otti said his administration had moved beyond “the era of small ambitions,” stressing that the state would continue pursuing projects capable of transforming public infrastructure and improving residents’ quality of life.
