The Labour Party, led by Nenadi Usman, has announced Dr Chibuzo Okereke as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, following a broad-based consensus among members and stakeholders.
The announcement was made on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at an event in Abuja, the party said in a statement.
The presidential candidate currently serves as president of ERGAF-AFRICA Legislative Governance Innovation and Policy Hub, a research institution focused on policy and legislative issues. He also works as a legislative consultant to key National Assembly committees and ranking lawmakers.
In addition, Okereke is a resident lecturer at Miva Open University in Abuja, where he teaches in the Department of Public Policy and Administration, training future public sector leaders.

With Okereke’s emergence, the Labour Party becomes the latest opposition group to finalise its presidential ticket for the January 2027 election.
The growing list of candidates includes former President Goodluck Jonathan (PDP), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar (ADC), Peter Obi (NDC), and incumbent President Bola Tinubu (APC), who is seeking a second term.
Former Anambra governor Peter Obi, who ran on the Labour Party ticket in 2023, has since moved to the NDC. The Labour Party has now chosen Okereke as its standard bearer for the upcoming contest.
